Il 14 Aprile 2012 la Dorothy Circus Gallery inaugura l’attesissima mostra personale di Leila Ataya, artista canadese di origini russe entrata a far parte dei grandi nomi del nuovo surrealismo internazionale. Come nei ritratti fiamminghi di Jan Vermeer, la bellezza della donna di Leila Ataya, è trasfigurata dall’incanto che suscita, e diviene rappresentazione del Misteroed epifania della creazione. Questa storia comincia nel giardino dell’Eden, il luogo fantastico dove tutto ha inizio.
Nasce la Donna, Eva è il suo primo nome e se nulla sappiamo dei tratti del volto, indelebile resta lo sguardo curioso che ha reso immortale la sua giovinezza e che come un fantasma attraversa il tempo.
La ritroviamo negli abiti sontuosi di una regina dai capelli rossi ed occhi di ghiaccio che svelano una sottile perfidia, accompagnata dalla posizione delle mani e dal misterioso contenuto del calice da cui fuoriescono preziose farfalle.
Lo stesso volto incorniciato da un fantasioso e ricco turbante ci seduce con la dolce pazienza di una concubina orientale che avvolge nella notte le passioni più segrete.
Seguiamo i suoi passi che attraversano il Liberty, la sua pelle candida è accarezzata da una volpe dagli occhi vitrei quanto quelli della nostra la misteriosa femme fatale.
Arriviamo alla fragile e allo stesso tempo aggressiva donna contemporanea, con fiori tatuati sulle braccia ed i capelli di mille colori diversi.
Sulla tela il buio impenetrabile, contrastato dalla luce di grandi occhi spalancati sul mondo, intrisi di ferocia e dolcezza e dall’incarnato diafano, moltiplicati dal riflesso dei gioielli o delle perle, che rimandano ad un’idea di perfezione ed eternità.
In ogni dettaglio di questi ritratti, come granelli di sabbia dentro una clessidra, si può tradurre l’Enigma del creato e dell’esistenza stessa, che pur restando segreto inesauribile ci preannuncia un continuo divenire.
On the 14th of April 2012 Dorothy Circus Gallery opens its doors to the long awaited exhibition of Leila Ataya, Russian-born and Canada based artist, who is already a name among the big ones on the international new surrealist scenery. As in the Flemish portraits of Jan Vermeer, the beauty of Leila Ataya’s woman, is transformed
by the enchantment that it arouse, and becomes a representation of the mystery of creation.
This story starts in the Garden of Eden, the fantastic place where everything
begins. The Woman is born, Eve is her first name, and even though we don’t
know anything about her features, her curious look, which has immortalized her youth and lives like a ghost through time, remains indelible. We find her as a
sumptuously dressed redhead queen, with icy eyes that reveals a subtle wickedness, holding a misterious chalice with precious butterflies coming out of it.
The same face, adorned with a fantastic and rich turban, seduces us with the sweet patience of an eastern concubine that envelops in the night all her unrevealed passions. We follow her steps walking through the late Liberty age, her pale skin caressed by a fox with eyes as glassy as those of our mysterious femme fatale.
We arrive at the modern woman, fragile and aggressive at the same time, with flowers tattooed on her arms and her hair dyed with thousand different colors.
On canvas, the impenetrable darkness is in contrast with the light of her big eyes that look at the world full of ferocity and gentleness, while the paleness of her diaphanous skin is whidespread by the reflection of jewels or pearls, referring to the idea
of perfection and eternity.
In every detail of these portraits, like grains of sand iside an hourglass, one can translate the riddle of creation and existence itself, which remains endless and yet promises us a continuous transformation.
